Resined - Modernism - Mid-Century Modern Art

Mid-Century Modern Art, Rex Ray InspiredA colorful graphic collage with a mid-century Modern feel encased in a gorgeous glossy thick layer of resin. It is simultaneously mid-century and contemporary. This is part of my “Graphically Mod” series. It is collage of hand painted and cut paper assembled on a black background and sealed with a shiny candy layer of resin. It’s mounted on a wood panel.The paper I use ranges from heavy watercolor paper to Yupo paper (thin plastic sheets). The paints I use are also varied, like acrylic ink, alcohol ink, spray paint and the standard acrylic paint. Lots of tools and handmade stencils are employed to give depth and pattern to the paper pieces. Deciding shapes and arranging the paper pieces is the challenging and sometimes overwhelming part of the process. Once arranged the pieces are glued in place and shiny, thick protective layer of resin is applied.If you know his work, you may have guessed that the inspiration for this series is the collage artist, Rex Ray, known for his retro-futuristic work.
